Why a Starberry Sport Morgan?
If you want a partner with the talent to compete and the temperament to actually enjoy, the Morgan is hard to beat. Bred originally as an all-purpose horse with jobs ranging from war, cattle management, pleasure driving and parades to family farm and riding mounts, the breed carries a versatility and toughness that shows today in World Champions still winning titles in their 20s and 30s. Morgans are famously smart and willing, often meeting their riders halfway in training rather than the other way around, which makes them equally suited to a first-time amateur or a seasoned professional. They combine beauty, brains, and talent in one attractive and thrifty package, and they carry a notably low incidence of genetic disease.
Starberry was built to do for Morgans what breed organizations elsewhere do for warmbloods and other competition breeds: raise the bar generation over generation. We breed deliberately for temperament, trainability, and talent, not just pedigree. Every foal is imprinted and handled daily from birth, so trust in people becomes part of who they are, a difference you can still see five years down the road. We measure our program against the best in the sport horse world, not just the best in our breed, while still holding onto true Morgan type and character. Every horse is tested for PSSM-1 and for gait to rule out unwanted genetics, and is registered with the American Morgan Horse Association and given a USEF Lifetime membership. The result is a horse with the athleticism to hold its own in open competition, the soundness to hold up over a long career, and a mind that genuinely wants to work with you, at a fraction of the cost of more popular sport breeds.
Starberry Morgan horses are bred with FEI talent worthy of a professional, but also with the minds and temperament that can be enjoyed by everyone. No matter your level of engagement, these horses can take you as far as you want to go, and they will work hard to be your partner and friend along the way.
